Arthur Secunda, Mammon (from the Watts Series)

Arthur Secunda’s artwork is a time capsule, as the acrylic embedded sculpture contains debris and small objects from the streets and elsewhere found following the Watts riots in Los Angeles in 1965. The six days of rioting were catalyzed by anger at the racist police brutality of the LAPD. The use of found objects and items that could be considered as junk collected after the historic riots gives this assemblage a potent and powerful rawness.
