Damian Aquiles, Building My Silence

2015

Damian Aquiles collects and repurposes found metal from automobiles, refrigerator doors, and paint cans into abstract assemblages with strong emotional impact. Building My Silence is a quilt-like mosaic collage formed from salvaged mass-produced consumer products, shaped over wooden boards. The metal patchwork palettes consist of industrial patinas, struck with inflections of dents, scratches, and strokes of rust and oxidation. Aquiles rescues discarded and used materials and redirects their energy.
