Made in bronze with gold and brown patina, this artwork can be seen as a surreal sculptural forearm. Bourgeois’s career was marked by her experimental engagement with material and form, across painting, sculpture and large-scale installation. Whether done in bronze, latex, or cloth, Bourgeois’s oeuvre reveals a fundamental interest in memory and the figurative. “The material itself,” she said, “does not interest me as such. It is a means; it is not the end.”
