Gabriela Ruiz, Untitled (Yellow Love Seat)
2019
Ruiz, a Mexican-American artist based in Los Angeles, creates artworks concerned with issues of queer and Latinx identity. Her art incorporates materials including thrift store furniture and carcinogenic insulation foam. Through sculptural installations with found objects, Ruiz considers the material culture that shapes social and domestic experiences, noting: “A lot of my work talks about finding a home in things… Coming from an immigrant household, the search for home is something very personal to me.”
