Kristin Baker, New Dawn Fades

2009

Kristin Baker’s large-scale abstract painting captures an interplay between light, color, and space. Rather than using traditional brushes, she applies acrylic paint onto acrylic sheets with squeegees and metal scrapers. This work’s unconventional metal support and transparent acrylic surface adds depth and dimensionality to the painting. By layering matte and glossy paints in both subtle and bold colors, she explores how natural and artificial light interact to create a sense of depth and flatness.
