Alexander Calder, Calder's Circus

These are reproductions of drawings done in 1931 that represent different figures Calder made in metal wires, translating his radical "drawing in space" wire techniques back onto the two-dimensional flat surface of paper. The ink sketches derive from his wire figures rather than direct visual observation of a live circus. These later reproductions of Calder’s circus drawings have been separated from a portfolio titled Calder Circus and were produced in 1964 by Art in America.
