John Okulick, Cythera's Dream

John Okulick’s Cythera's Dream is a 3-dimensional box relief wall sculpture, containing bundles of straw and twigs bound together in an open rope grid. Because of Okulick’s transposition of two- or three-dimensional space, both in illusion and reality, a distance is created between the sculpture and the viewer. The title refers to the Greek island of Cythera, the mythological birthplace of Aphrodite. Palm Springs Desert Museum exhibited Okulick’s retrospective Transformation in Perspective in 1991.
