Serge Attukwei Clottey, Earning potentials

2019

Clottey creates tapestries using plastic cut from jugs used to carry water in his home country. The jugs are also known as Kufuor gallons, after John Agyekum Kufuor, the president of Ghana from 2001 to 2009, who used these containers to distribute water. Imported from the west as cooking oil canisters, they have come to symbolize water shortages in Accra. Clottey describes the jugs as “very symbolic in our Ghanaian lifestyle for everyday survival.”
